Founded in 1896 by Francisco Ferlita (Rose's Grandfather), Ferlita Bakery is located at 1818 9th Avenue. Today it is home to the Ybor City State Museum.
The Ferlita Bakery was a rich part of history in Ybor City. Francisco Ferlita and his five sons, served the community for 77 years delivering fresh bread to residents of Ybor City and surrounding communities. Whether it was delivering bread by Horse-and-Buggy or, opening its doors for neighborhood gatherings, Francisco enjoyed serving his community.

In fact, it was not unusual for locals to gather to drink Cuban coffee and catch up on local news during the wee hours of the morning while bakers were diligently kneading and baking bread for that day. In addition, firefighters enjoyed picking up their traditional free loaves of Cuban bread to take back to the fire station at the corner.
